Setting Up a Crypto Wallet

Before you can purchase TUNIT tokens, you'll need a cryptocurrency wallet. This guide will help you set up a wallet that's compatible with our purchasing system, even if you're completely new to crypto.

What is a crypto wallet?A cryptocurrency wallet is a digital tool that allows you to store, send, and receive digital currencies. Think of it like a digital bank account for your cryptocurrency. Unlike a regular wallet, it doesn't actually "store" your crypto — instead, it stores the private keys needed to access your crypto assets on the blockchain.

Recommended Wallets for TUNIT Purchase

The following wallets are fully compatible with our purchase system and are recommended for their ease of use, security features, and compatibility with Ethereum (ETH), which is required to purchase TUNIT tokens.

1MetaMask

MetaMask is the most widely used Ethereum wallet and our top recommendation for purchasing TUNIT tokens. It's available as both a browser extension and a mobile app.

Setting up MetaMask

  1. Visit metamask.io
  2. Click "Download" and select your preferred platform (browser or mobile)
  3. For browser: Install the extension from your browser's store
  4. Open the MetaMask extension and click "Get Started"
  5. Select "Create a Wallet"
  6. Create a password for your wallet (this secures the browser extension)
  7. You'll be shown a Secret Recovery Phrase (12 words) — write this down physically and store it somewhere extremely secure
  8. Confirm your Secret Recovery Phrase by selecting the words in the correct order
  9. Your wallet is now ready to use!
Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase! This 12-word phrase is the master key to your wallet. Anyone who has it can access all your funds. Never share it with anyone, never store it digitally, and keep it in a secure physical location.
2Coinbase Wallet

Coinbase Wallet is a user-friendly option from a well-known cryptocurrency exchange. It's a separate app from the Coinbase exchange and works well with our purchase system.

Setting up Coinbase Wallet

  1. Download the Coinbase Wallet app from your device's app store
  2. Open the app and tap "Create a new wallet"
  3. Set up a username or skip this step
  4. Create a PIN for accessing your wallet
  5. Enable biometric authentication if desired (fingerprint/face ID)
  6. The app will then show your recovery phrase — write it down securely
  7. Verify your recovery phrase by entering the correct words
  8. Your wallet is ready to use

Coinbase Wallet also has a browser extension available, similar to MetaMask.

3WalletConnect-Compatible Wallets

Our purchase system supports WalletConnect, which means you can use many different mobile wallets to connect to our platform. Here are some recommended options:

  • Trust Wallet - Popular mobile wallet developed by Binance
  • Rainbow - User-friendly Ethereum wallet with a beautiful interface
  • Argent - Security-focused Ethereum wallet with built-in security features

The setup process for these wallets is similar to the ones described above. Always remember to securely store your recovery phrase offline.

Using WalletConnectWhen connecting these wallets to our platform, select "WalletConnect" as your connection method, and you'll be able to scan a QR code with your mobile wallet to connect.

Adding Funds to Your Wallet

To purchase TUNIT tokens, you'll need to have Ethereum (ETH) in your wallet. Here are the common ways to add ETH to your wallet:

1Purchase ETH on an Exchange

The most common way to get ETH is to buy it on a cryptocurrency exchange like Coinbase, Binance, or Kraken.

  1. Create an account on a cryptocurrency exchange
  2. Complete any required identity verification
  3. Add a payment method (bank account, credit card, etc.)
  4. Purchase Ethereum (ETH)
  5. Withdraw the ETH to your wallet address (the long string of characters in your wallet)
Copy your wallet addressIn your wallet app, find your Ethereum address and use the copy function. Always double-check the first and last few characters when pasting it elsewhere.
2Direct Purchase in Wallet

Many wallets, including MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet, allow you to purchase crypto directly within the app.

  1. Look for a "Buy" button in your wallet app
  2. Select Ethereum (ETH)
  3. Choose your payment method and amount
  4. Complete the purchase
Watch for fees!Purchasing directly within wallets is convenient but may include higher fees than using an exchange. Compare the options to get the best deal.
3Receive from Another Wallet

If you already have ETH in another wallet or someone is sending you ETH, you can simply provide them with your wallet address.

  1. In your wallet app, find and copy your Ethereum address
  2. Share this address with the sender
  3. They'll send ETH to this address
  4. The transaction may take a few minutes to complete

Wallet Security Best Practices

  • Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with anyone
  • Write down your recovery phrase on paper and store it in a secure location
  • Consider using a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor for larger amounts
  • Enable all security features offered by your wallet (biometrics, 2FA, etc.)
  • Be wary of phishing attempts - always verify you're on the correct website
  • Keep your device's software updated to protect against vulnerabilities
